What is the Metropolitan Affairs Coalition? The Metropolitan Affairs Coalition (MAC) is a non-profit public/private partnership dedicated to enhancing the economic vitality and quality of life in Southeast Michigan. It is the only group comprised of leaders in business, labor, government and education who work cooperatively to address regional issues and serve as a catalyst for change. MAC works closely with its partner organization, SEMCOG, the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments , and benefits from its expertise, research, data collection and analysis. What does MAC do? MAC promotes regional cooperation and dialogue, and works to advance policies and programs that respond to the region’s challenges and opportunities – with everyone at the table. Its main areas of focus include economic development, infrastructure, environment, education, and government effectiveness and efficiency. How does MAC work? MAC’s members believe that the only way to move the region forward is for leaders in business, labor, government and education to work together. Most of the region’s complex problems cannot be effectively addressed by any one sector, organization or governmental unit acting alone. MAC develops collaborative relationships, provides a forum for identifying and exploring issues, builds consensus, and communicates with the public, elected officials, opinion leaders, and diverse stakeholders to stimulate action in response to regional needs.
